Cake and Champagne

by PhauxShaux

Cake and champagne:
Heaven's blessings,
Confection and effervescence:
Best of intent.
Cake and champagne:
Love's soditty souvenirs sent.
Cake and champagne:
A campaign hell-bent
On remembering
June before December
Sans the young'ns and rent.
Man and wife living life,
Stress and strife
Soon present
One and one's descent
From a sugar high of days gone bye-bye...
Cake and champagne:
Not a dry eye...
...Dare a show of hands for marzipan,
Dreams drowned in butter cream!
I wonder what bin number
Best represents love meant
To have been spent
Sparkly and content?
Cake and champagne:
Hearts captured, enraptured,
Ruptured: society's sacred structure.
Cake and champagne:
Pumpkin coach: No rims for these wheels...
Brakes hiss and squeal!
Rosy romance reneged on the deal:
The once vexed, now perplexed
Sprints solo
In plexi-glass Manolos:
Broke-off heel...
...Listens to hear the ever-lasting,
ever-rasping, ever-grasping
Tech-nine blasting last laughter
Left gasping
For air
And the preferred care
of
Past offerings: Chauffer
And brimming coffers of happily ever after...
