Y’all Dont Love Me

by Annette M. Parrott

Y’all dont love me
Y’all oooh and ahhh and all a’ that
Never hesitating to pat me on the back
Was that a push? Or my ‘magination actin up again?

Y’all dont love me.
Y’all flatter me verbally with accolades
Sweeter than sugar, molasses and marmalade
Who poisoned my tea? Why is there bitter in what should be sweet?

Y’all dont love me.
Asking me to do, but blaming me ‘cause i accept
Out of one side i’m adept, out the other i’m inept
Make up your mind! Or let me be. Me.

Y’all dont love me
I’m too meek and too proud, too quiet and too loud
Too endowed to ever fully be one of the crowd
Ya’ll use what you want, but dont want what you use.

Y’all dont love me
Cause i wont smile in your face, your icons chase or your ideals embrace
Cause i wont disgrace myself running your race
You want to include the products, but not the producer, i see.

Y’all dont love me
So i’m ostracized, criticized, chastised and compromised
Vandalized, covertly despised, with your disdain and distaste incised
Dont bother telling me lies i can see through your disquise.

I know y’all dont love me, but
Is it that y’all love to hate me, or hate to love me?
No matter, ya’ll dont love me just the same
But s’ok..................cause Jesus does.
