Soul Food

by Annette M. Parrott

Food for my soul
from the well than shall never run dry
the manna endlessly supplied from the sky
That fills me, satiates me, addicts me. You know why?
Cause it’s served from the bowl of your bountiful supply.
Soul Food, food for my soul.

My cup runneth over and my saucer does too
With that delightfully delicious Soul Food from you
It’s true. That your Soul Food fills those who hunger and thirst.
There’s as much for the last as there is for the first
But I don't want to wait in line. I want to dine!
Now’s the time for that Soul Food divine.
Soul Food, food for my soul.

Your Soul Food fills my nutritional needs.
My soul it maintains and my spirit it feeds
With all the requirements to fertilize spiritual seeds
And discourage weeds.
Down the pathway of eternal living, your Soul Food leads.
Soul Food, food for my soul.

My soul is eternally satisfied.
My craving for your Soul Food will never subside
Subsistence for spiritual sustenance it provides
whether baked, boiled, fricasseed or fried
your Soul Food remains the same, worldwide.
Soul Food, food for my soul.

Bread of heaven feed me till I want no more,
I adore, your, nourishing store
I come before you, to implore you
to pour me some more of your victuals of victory
with grace and other garnishes galore that is.
Soul Food, food for my soul.

I long to feast on your Soul Food cuisine
That sticks to my ribs like corn bread,
pig’s feet and collard greens, you know what I mean?
Keeping my body clean and the flesh lean.
So energized with joy, there’s no need for caffeine.
For breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, snacks, yet never routine
Soul Food, food for my soul.
