Obsessions

by Annette M. Parrott

Sometimes I give my emotions emancipation
Since so infrequently, they have opportunity to flow free
I allow them their expression and exploration
Like the nectar sampling, pollen gathering of a honey bee

But I always know where the reigns are, when the rains are
falling, so that vision is impaired
And I can call them all back into submission
Denying them as though they weren't ever there

And once they are folded and packed neatly
Snapped, zipped and sewed at the seams
Anesthetized and cauterized I place them
In the box with the dreams yet undreamed

Awaiting that glorious occasion
Where a healthy, wealthy reception they'll receive
When conception will be birthed in inception
And my obsessions their first breath will finally breathe
