Remember The Keepers Of History

by Baba Olutunde Olufemi

Remember to honor
remember to salute ..............
those who witness the passing time
the messengers of antiquity
the voices forever sounding
through the night, through the dawn
from the mystery, telling and teaching us
the hymns and testaments
that etched determination in our palms
that spark liberation in our souls
that expose consciousness to our minds
and brought our beings to stand in the sun
to bath continually knowing
every sign moves differently in the breeze
but as they sway, they are connected at the roots.

Remember to respect
remember to bless ..............
those who carry fruit on the limbs of their spirits
those who can see even without eyes
those who sit at the end of the crossroads
pouring libations from their existence
waiting in the company of patience for open by passers.
Those who memory expands beyond the universe
those who have written journals across their hearts
those who summons us to the altar and guides us back
to our position of power where the ray of divine
majesty moves through those with the courage
to leave their footprints behind for others to follow
the obsidian dreamers sleepwalking on onyx mountaintops
chiseling birthstones out of the stairways to life
and hiding them between the worn pages of time
to inspire those who engrave this image,
who remain illuminating that burning sign directing those
who have forgotten the river moving beyond the stars.

Remember them
Do not forget them ......................the Griots.
