Like Kibuuka

by Jane Musoke-Nteyafas

Like Kibuuka,
I shall splash a myriad of colours
Onto a rich picturesque landscape
Impressionist painted canvass
With fragments of gold, crimson, lilac
And bold arrays of the rainbow.
My paintbrush shall impart
The images of my love for you.

Like Kibuuka,
I shall use a silver palette knife
To imprint lovely visions of
Treasured visual vibrations
Like royal Kiganda beating drums
And diamond crowned Kabakas.
With life surging energy,
I shall reflect my love for you.

Like Kibuuka,
I shall use a versatile fluency
In oils, acrylics, watercolours
And lead pencil drawing,
With diverse ingredients and paint recipes
Preserving precious pictures of Africa
To paint an illustration
Of my love for you.

Like Kibuuka,
I shall surpass Michelangelo and Rembrandt
With an ancient African touch
Of Surrealism and Impressionism.
I shall Africanize the Renaissance style
With infusions of traditional Ugandan art
And heavy layered soil paints.
I shall paint my love for you.
