The World Disappears

by Nii Parkes

By and by
Your door learns the sound of my knock.
Like a trained homing pigeon flock
I become aware of my fate
as I return date after date.

By and by
The candles burn much too swiftly
Our minds fuse ever so gently
I welcome you in deep silence
My heartstrings are forever tense

By and by
Our hands join on impulse - first clue!
I learn to walk in step with you
Your kiss awakens me to passion
My wild heartbeats end up clashing

By and by
Your hair becomes my lucky charm
Your body becomes my right arm
Our brown eyes see dawn together
Your legs lead me to forever

By and by
The mist of love begins to rise;
As I lose myself in your eyes
your name starts ringing in my ears
and the whole wide world disappears.
