Swinging

by Nii Parkes

I have this dream sometimes
just before the sun rises;
I see you and me on swings
opposite each other
like upside-down daffodils
...swinging.

Knowing
If we swung too hard
we'd crash and fall
but
If we swung just right
our lips would lock
in a kiss
and, leaving you,
I would sigh my pleasure
to exhale
and, nearing you,
my breath would catch
so that
every breath I took
would have you in between.
