Farewell

by Nii Parkes

Your eyes were kind, your words gentle
but the gist was clear as crystal
you were leaving just as you came
beautiful, sweet, free and untame.

Like mimosa gently caressed
my eyelids drooped to shield me, lest
I saw you walk away - graceful
and proud. Lest you saw me tearful.
