Seek And Ye Shall Find

by Naima

The sun again rises; we rise
with a desperate need for the truth
He says: learn me; love me
but for us, this remains an impossibility…
how shall we learn?
Long gone are the holy prophets
crusading for our souls in the streets
casting away all doubt and skepticism
with heavenly light shining in their eyes.
Religious exploration results in confusion,
conflicting views and contradictions in the manuals
each charging that mere ignorance of a discipline could mean
eternal damnation;
each intolerant of the other, creating opposition and separatism.
We are natural products of our environments…
how can we be wrong –
if our parents were not believers?
Will we be saved from ourselves
when we have the innate ability to justify our actions;
create [and change] the rules?
Is this His divine plan:
for humanity to wander through life in darkness
destined to forget [or disregard] right from wrong?
Tonight the sun again will set
on the empty mind of civilization.
