Love Is Like God

by Naima

natural confusion exists
in our hearts
for purposes unknown.
thoughts sinfully romantic
enticing evils;
leaving human stains
along this path
we are forced to walk
to heaven [or happiness].
a scorned soul wounded by life
turns to worship a kindred spirit
or a like mind
finding only a better understanding
of himself.
the paradox of identity
exists to challenge the realm
of thought and choice [free will].
pleasure is instinctive
but pain is expected
and only memory remains forever.
ordinary reasoning results
in comfortable hopelessness;
though very weak we still wish
maintaining there is something more
to discover.
oh God, oh love
rescue all on this night!
for that which we cannot see
we must feel.
