Shadows Of Hope

by Miatta Lynn Lansana

My naive people were lost in this multi-cultural sea.
They were stripped of their culture and their beliefs.
They were enslaved and beaten and often left for dead
with white sacks over their heads,
but through all this my native people did strive
to keep their morality and survive.
Now looking back I see we did overcome,
and we achieved it all through God's only begotten son.
The shadows of the past have made me glad,
for I know through them I am free at last!
