Living

by Brenda J McIntosh

I’ve seen much pain and heartache during this life
But until this body stands no more
I will continue to love
And give love to all who enter my realm
I am but an aged Black woman
Existing within the pain of constraints
That is my world
I found beauty amongst the anguish
And as I contemplate and cultivate the future
Recalling past delusions
That steered my course
Toward the end of days
I’m hopeful the end
Will culminate near the Saints
And I will sparkle like a Black gem
Having eluded my persecutors
The cunning conniving seducers
Elevated my being to queen of the matadors
And I will ride into heaven upon a golden bull
In full regalia… and as the pain dissipates
I return from whence I come
Received into the loving arms of the Omnipotent One!
