Life Goes On

by Brenda J McIntosh

We continue to breathe in our community
Causes shine, then fade away
Where is our tenacity?
If we allow the current outrage
To fade from the spotlight
We have only ourselves to blame
Fifty years after the March on Washington
The great “I Have A Dream” speech is simply prophetic words
That has yet come to fruition
Life goes on and we continue to struggle in vain
Accepting the pain like a systemic condition
That comes with every beat of our hearts
As usual, the sense of community will soon depart
We will slowly let the light grow dim
Our Black Kings will pass away
Soon there won’t be anyone to fight another day
