Pride

by Derrick L. McFadden

When you look at me you see Black Pride.
In my walk, in my talk, in my eyes.

Despite stereotypes, media, tell-a-lie-vision, and lies.
Despite racial hatred, black on black crime my pride still resides.

In my heart and in my soul.
Black Pride will remain in me until I'm old.

Even after I'm dead and gone.
The knowledge of history and self will be instilled in my siblings
so Black Pride will be carried on.

They will know that there blood comes from Kings and Queens
and a history so profound.
That the evils that be tried to bury it deep, deep underground.

And make it theirs so they can seem superior.
And feed it to the blind and make them seem inferior.

But with knowledge of history and self you will see through the lies.
Bringing truth to light and in your self instilling Black Pride.
