Black Love In Cheyenne, WY

by Derrick L McFadden

Who would have thought that I would find love in a city called Cheyenne.
When finding love wasn’t in the picture or part of my plan.

I can’t believe that Cheyenne is now my new home.
A place where the antelope play and the buffalo roam.

Where there is land as far as the eye can see.
Filled with lakes and streams and places for animals to run free.

A place where the Buffalo Soldiers use to ride.
Doing their job with precision and with pride.

A place where the people are friendly as can be.
In which I was surprised, being that I’m from NC.

I was expecting to see that demon
called “racial hatred” raise it’s ugly head.
But I haven’t met him yet, only kindness instead.

It is still hard to believe that I found Black Love here.
I will never forget this place, in my mind it will remain crystal clear.

That in this city is where I met my best friend.
That in this city is where my loneliness would end.

That in this city I became a believer in love a first sight.
That in this city I found a love that was so right.

That in this city awaited my soul mate.
That in this city there wouldn’t be any more heartbreak.

That In this city I would find a new life.
That In the city of Cheyenne I would find my wonderful wife.
