Todd Matson

Todd Matson says that "My personal background will give you a better idea of my perspective and desires. I was raised in a middle-class family in a residential area of southwestern Michigan. It would not be too much of a stretch to refer to my family as abnormally normal, in that nothing shocking or out of the ordinary ever seemed to be associated with the image we projected to one another or to the world beyond our four walls. I have a sense that much of my life has been dedicated to reclaiming and giving expression to the shadow side of life."

Matson has been married for fourteen years and has two daughters, ages 9 and 6. He has served fourteen years as a pastor, and several years as a professional faith-based therapist and marriage & family therapist. He says "Working with troubled people has always fascinated me and provides me with an abundance of inspiration for my poetry." He is currently on staff as a professional therapist with Methodist Counseling & Consultation Services in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He recently had a chapbook published by Scars Publications, two poems published by Children, Churches and Daddies Literary Magazine, one poem published in Shemom, and one poem accepted for publication in the Fall 2002 issue of the Journal of Pastoral Care & Counseling, the professional journal of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Matson says "I have been working hard to develop my craft and feel very excited about being published as a poet."
