A Zillion Miles of Life Tread

by Margaret I. Williams

A zillion miles of life tread
Racing rivers as
Suns smiled overhead

Odds against me
Traveled bumpy
Downtrodden roads
Left the weak in the dust
Yet
Couldn't quite climb fast enough

A zillion miles of life tread
Ignoring lines defined
Yearned to know the purpose of life
Not
At all
Intimidated by strife

A fugitive of love
fleeing complacency
Danced to the tune of time
Expiring
Slowly
Like the cells of mind

A zillion miles of life tread
Reached the fork in the road
Branching everywhere
Now standing
Confused
Wondering "Will I ever get there?"
