Closing The Book of Love

by Margaret I. Williams

Too old
Too wise
Life is swiftly passing me by
Closed my heart to the swift and the meek
To candle filled nights
And the wrongs
That I can't make right

No more love or tears I'll bring
No more songs about broken hearts I'll sing
Fought against retiring
The leading role in my video
Tired of the same old love songs
On my radio

No longer believe
Someone
On standby somewhere
Extraordinary
Will zap a spell on me
A spell that's all that and blinding
Whom I will marry

Heart's cold
Soul's crowded
With archives of loves past
About stallions that have
Trampled
And trespassed.

Closing the book on longing
Dusting away the stale memories
Crossing the border from the past
To the future strong
Eventually I'll embrace
A place in life that I belong

Closing the book of love
