Nay And Jay

by Vanessa Williams Luster

Dedication: All The Lonely People

I'm still sitting here, wondering and waiting
for the song to be played.
I walk back and forth, slowly, then oh so quickly.
Why do I do this to myself.
Just want to know this, but how can I know?
It's the sound of the "Ryme Chime" that suddenly begins to flow.
Please let me rewind.
Suddenly it begins to sound.
My favorite note, what's that you ask?
It's the chime of the love song.
Listen! haven't you always wanted to hear someone or something
tell you that it loves you.
Over and over again.
I know it sounds silly and incomplete.
Maybe even disoriented, but I don't simply care.
Nay, you ask, what are you talking about hun?
The "Ryme Chime" don't you know by now.
Still she walks and walks, back and forth on her porch.
That sits so far away from reality, but she's yet there.
And I love you too, she replies.
You hear my heart beating faster and faster.
Jay, she say, I want you to know that I'm very glad to have met you.
I really am, I keep pressing the little button
for it to say to me that it loves me.
Over and over again.
Nay!, Nay! I say, you must be dreaming my dear, sweet dear.
For no one here loves you at all in that kind of way.
Suddenly, she stumbles and fall, still I hear the sound
of the "Ryme Chime" In my perplexing ear.
Nay, it's Jay,I do love you my dear.
And I love you too, to me you're so sweet.
I'm yours. That's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the way,a "Ryme Chime"
That plays over again and again.
I love you Nay, deep within.
Even if it's just a long time vanished friend.
It's funny how someone thought of putting those 3 little
words in a box, a Ryme Chime.
The cost? less than a silver dime.
Love, priceless, Today I just purchased mine.
