Dark Empty Soul

by Lisa Beck-Bradford

Shimmering light peer through the bare sockets
once where eyes rested

Through the open pit the sound of anguish
Struggle to escape from darkness

The internal walls are strewn with soot
From continuous fire that burn to destroy

Screams, moans of agony and despair
Are echoed being heard from afar
Repeatedly over & over & over again

Once strong, vibrant & vigourous the shell
Now a shadow of hollow mass of nonexistence
Destroyed by disease engulfing all occupants

The heart once glistening with passion
Now stagnant in an orb of seclusion

Drops of blook try to escape giving assurance
But all activity has ceased..hope is no more
