For Akina and Other Loves

by Lennox V. Farrell

If I could
Betroth all the black women I see lonely
I would
Take tenderness to them till death us do part.
But how could
I and still remain committed to the one
I should
Be true to?
What I would
Do is raise sons to be honourable men
Who could
Take care of her who in their fulness of time
They should
Betroth to, too.
