I Am

by L.C. Johnson

       See ya'll niggas is tired
        And I'm trying to inspire
      You preaching the thug life
And I know you a liar

See I wanna write the words
         That change the world
        To make men become men
          Finally comprehend

         How to raise a family
         In a world of insanity
         But where I come from
         Tragedies are reality

       Something we gotta face
      That we just can't escape
         In a world where you
Judged by the money you make

         We went from slavery
        To the penitentiary
     Four hundred years passed
       And we still ain't free

       It's a long way home
When you forget who you are
      And what you stand for
      Trying to be some star

     Never forget who you are
      And what you stand for
         If you do that
Your nothing but a industry whore

  Attacked by dogs and bigots
         But I stand brave
         I finally realized
I am the dream of the slaves
