Break Free

by L.C. Johnson

I ask for no parade or monument
Just say I was here
He loved his family
To whom he held dear
What makes a man great
Is it wisdom and heart
The ability to sacrifice
Separates up apart
It’s like a ugly beauty
The faded pictures are clear
To tell the truth when they need it
And they don’t want to hear
The knowledge that you have
Cuz you already faced
The suffering around the corner
They’re about to embrace
I hate to see my loved ones
Played in the game
The biggest lessons in life
Usually come with pain
When it rains it pours
I can’t take no more
I’m sitting at heavens gate
Please open the door
Motionless I lay
Praying for a better day
Just another lost soul
Trying to find his way
Somebody’s running a game on you
The same one they ran on me
Well somebody’s running a game on us
And one day we’ll both break free
One day we’ll both break free
