A Pharoah's Heart

by Latorial Faison

Sometimes
My inner voice tells me
That I'm too black
Too down, too dismal
To the bound.

Because
Sometimes I'm the
Pharoah who will not
Let those people
Go.

And I find
The excruciating possibility
That it might be the world's fate
That I'm to wear a hardhat
Beneath my breastplate.

So that good will be done,
That I might venture
Into the white light of life
To look and think back
And know.
