For Father’s Day
I could not find
A card for a father like mine

I search and I read
Nearly all the cards the store had
But none were written
For a DEAD BEAT Dad!

I could not find a card that said:
Thanks for cheating on my mother
Thanks for abandoning me and my brothers

Thanks for all the broken promises
Thanks for forgetting us on the weekends

Thanks for empty stomachs
And cold nights
Thanks for no water
And no lights!

Thanks for the struggle,
The pain
And confusion.

Thanks for leading me to the conclusion...

I will never find
A Father’s Day card
For a father…
Like mine

Although my relationship with my father 
is in repair it is important to note 
the long-lasting feelings of pain 
and confusion children go through. 
It also makes picking out Father's Day 
cards very interesting. 
We live, we learn, we forgive....
but we never forget.
