Rise Up Again

by Lady J

Sitting in front of the t.v.
What is it that I see
My eyes and ears must be deceiving me
People born in this country are now called refugees
As everyone watch this crisis for the nation
Mr. Bush decided he needed two more days of vacation
Couldn't the President see that the country was in a mess
That everyone in New Orleans, Mississippi, and Alabama was stressed
And that Katrina caused people to drown to their death
Keep speaking the truth Kanye West
Here I thought the country was becoming less racist
That we were no longer being judged by the color of our faces
But guess what America it's still happening on a regular basis
I keep seeing it time after time
Black people loot, white people find
This kind of BS makes you want to lose your mind
It's time for my people to take care of their own
Let's rebuild New Orleans with bigger and better homes
Let's start to build black wealth
So we will be able to do for self
This poem goes out to my brothers and sisters and next to kin
And to the New Orleans children, women, and men
Keep your head up, cause the South will rise again
