Tears

by K. S. McNeil

A tear for you
for me
for our unborn babies
cry with me
cry for me

A tear for creativity
for big business
for corporate clones
cry with me
cry for me

tears of golden handcuffs dreams dissipated
crystal clear mirages
financially defeated
temporarily satiated by
instant gratifications

tears of lost selves
expectations of
illusionary white
accomplishments diminished
ring finger defined
self seeking not God chosen

A tear for autonomy
for singlehood
cry with me
cry for me

tears of the broken hearted
lost words ever presence
missed goodbyes
circle broken beyond
repair
emotional despair
no one there

A tear for Jordan river
for souls of loved ones
for my existence
cry with me
cry for me

tears of Barbie
loathing brown skin
thickness of African descent
time spent
wishing for aqua blue
golden waves of supremacy
naturally deceived
to relax your heritage

A tear for chocolate skin,
a tear for Tom,
for my black skin,
cry with me
cry for me

tears of disease
devastating the diaspora
minds focused on
American dream deferred
fast food
simple sexed
too death

A tear for Black family
for untimely deaths
for my Mother Africa
cry with me
cry for me

tears of lost souls
defined by money
appearance
mindless clones
devoid of God’s spirit
forgetting the essential
of the giving to
gain

A tear for materialism
for Fight club minds
for Tyler
cry with me
cry for me

A tear for the sake of tears
for fears
for us
for everyone under God’s sun

A tear for you
for me
for our unborn babies
cry with me
cry for me

Sing my tears with me
do it for me
do it for you
cry

cry

cry

for freedom of spirit
of mind

cry

cry

cry

why are your eyes still dry?
