Leader's Prayer

by D. Sekou

now I lay me down to sleep,
please Lord don't let me die before I beat these streets.
Let the establishment reap what they have sown,
And allow my people to show they have grown.
Sticking together to fight this battle with no retreat,
Fight 'til the war is done.
Educating every black man on how to raise his son,
While showing his daughters what to look for in a man.
Also, letting her know to be patient and understand,
The black family must be reborn.
Renewing our minds from a history so torn.
And dear Lord, before I depart
Allow me to finish what I start.
Although, I know I must go
Let my life be used to show
Others how to live and find a path to You.
Because it's for You I live
