Burden Of A Man/Fatherless Child

by Kojo Din Sekou

the reason for your pain is
because the state required,
your father, to support what he once desired.
which is your mother, who had a child of his.
the child he tried to get her to abort,
she refused; and you're the result.

if he had took the time to know you,
never would he consider you a burden.
by neglecting to help you grow,
he let his true colors show.
to accept responsibility, he never learned
and by the time he does you'll no longer yearn,
for daddy dearest.
you realize your daddy wasn't fearless,
because if he was he would have left you tearless.

the saddest case is when you wear his name.
it should be with pride;
but instead, it's in shame.
he ran to hide
and your mother he tries to blame
as you grow older you act as your father died.
to you he's so lame,
because he never tried.
