The Eyes Are the Window to the Soul

by Nicole Smith-Kirnon

Pain is an emotion that can some times be hidden. It can be covered by smiles and laughter.
It can be suppressed yet never forgotten. Look into my eyes and see pass the color of my pupils.
My eyes are brown, look deeper they are saddened, their color is blue.

Saddened by hurt and pain attempting to overcome. Tears that have been held back.
Connect with me. See the hurt that has risen. The pain that is slow to forget.
See the tears that form and understand why the eyes are the window to the soul.

The eyes can tell a story. A story of a tragic past. A trying present and a future uncertain of.
See pass the smile as beautiful as it may be.
Look beyond the sounds of the laughter and hear the vibrations of a cry being held back.
Close your eyes and become one with me.
The darkness is a representation of a world unknown to many
and a reason to why so few are allowed inside my world.

Hold my hand, tighter feel my pulse rise, my breaths heavier Release! Open your eyes.
Wipe your tears away and look into the window of my soul,
a world frigid on the inside with an unfamiliar being with eyes yet to be opened.

It has been said that pain is a fugacious moment in time however the memories lives on.
Although the pain is not the same, hold my hand once more. Look pass my smile.
If you want to know me, look deep into my eyes and look into the window of my soul.
