The Prince in the Place

by Kimajor

Someday my prince will come
but the purple one didn't enter
In this dark place
JACK-son's on the horn
scalin' away
and Chuck is-in-the-corner
drumming funky
in a Latin way
"Got to use bass, man
- BASS DRUM...
Got to be heavy on the foot"
While smoke curls overhead
won't need another Camel
for three mo' days, he says
At the table
late-night risotto and pancetta
turn to cheesy rice and bacon
Passing in the bar
brothers-to-brothers acknowledge
leaning into that handshake
On the street
folks pass the joint
and see a prince
reign over the keyboard
and dab cloth to his forehead
keeping time to the night
