Biographer and essayist Kevin Brown has authored or contributed to 4 books, and written dozens of articles and reviews on art, cinema, dance, literature, music and politics for publications such as The Nation, Threepenny Review, (London) Times Literary Supplement, Washington Post Bookworld and others since 1978. He is the author of Malcolm X : His Life and Legacy which was published in 1995. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1960, raised in San Francisco and the Bay Area, settled in New York City in 1985, and completed his education at Columbia University.

In addition to writing he likes antiques, interior design, arts and crafts, do-it-yourself, cooking, dining out, wine & spirits, spending time with family and friends, keeping fit, movies, music, pets, spectator sports (hockey), the outdoors, the theater, travel and walking. He shares an apartment large enough for thousands of books, recordings, videos (but sorely in need of plants and window treatments) with two, green-eyed black cats and occasional weekenders.
