Perception vs. Reality

by J. Griot

When you're a strong Black Man,
They try to give you labels
Perpetuating all of these fabricated fabels
If you don't know,
Then you need to ask a question
If your laws have flaws,
Then I'm down for insurrection
The cover of the book has nothing to do with the contents
You're stereortyping a continent
Where the people have dark skin
The results of the Blessing of melanin
This perception drives you crazy if you fit the description;
The beast can attack with nobody's permission
A prism of Light helps blind eyes see
But today our only images are on t.v.
Tell-lie-vision,
Hooking people like junkies
You can either play sports,
Or play the fool and be funny
But I'm intelligent and don't front to achieve
Wishing that my Sisters would remove all the weave
Plant a seed, it'll grow
We'll benefit from the Fruit
A real small space only has a little hoop;
Now it's only j's or Black people that we shoot

Perception may be fact,
But it's just not Reality...
