Assimilation

by J. Griot

Righteousness has got me on a narrow path
I feel like Noah,
Who endured the laughs
Where the eagles gather
You'l find the chosen
I rock the full armor to guard against erosion

Accept your own and be yourself
Leave these devils alone,
They ain't got enough wealth
The universe belongs to Original Man
The devil can't give you what's yours
Understand

Assimilation to a nation of devils
Leads to identity crisis;
Just look at what you life is
So I be me as I hurdle the obstacles
The world is cold,
So I build with some apostles,
Like a holy man;
But I'm not, I'm just striving
The race is on, people fighting to survive, and
I see my pen as a way to express
The feelings that I have locked inside my chest
I used to rock a vest
That matched my khakies
Thinking pulling chicks and weed sticks
Would make me happy
But then it slapped me,
Reality check
You've got to be yourself if you want respect
I had to self reflect,
Like the mirror in the bathroom
The wild, wild west got us stressed by high noon
Now I consume intellectually
Material that's Spiritual
Sometimes I go to funerals
And find myself just shaking my head
Assimilation to this nation
Leaves my people dead

Accept your own and be yourself
Leave these devils alone
They ain't got enough wealth
The universe belongs to Original Man
The devil can't give you what's yours
Understand
