Out of the Cracks

by John D. Evans

Students will do nothing

Put their heads down

Refuse to obey rules

They will talk back

Chew gum in class

Arrive unprepared

Refuse our help and

Give up on themselves

Only if we allow them to

When one child is failing

Our work has just begun

We can’t stand by watching

Shaking our heads complaining

Our best work is helping children

Realize their potential, their best work
