Metallic Hearts

by Jide Ilebiyi

Some where in the streets of nowhere
I stood unmoved by the fist of fear
To comprehend the vagueness around me
All I beheld faces long and weary

Faces of men disillusioned
Fighting without a hope of victory
The deadly sting of reality.
They were here from the start
And fought that we might be free

Free though we are…
In the enthrallment of metallic hearts

Faces of women, mothers, and all
Beaten and battered to conformity
Forced to bite the dust and curse
Their own ill bearing wombs

The Alma locus of metallic hearts

Faces of children, craving to be heared
Borne out of hatred helpless dependents
Yet they cry and hope that voices
Could tear through metallic hearts

Not scientific inventions but self made androids
Selfishness and hatred be their driving force
May we now work that they malfunction
Because love and freedom drool
Where metallic hearts rule
