28 Shades of Green

by Hozy G. Whitehead

As I try to sleep at night I think of all the chances that I’ve been given.
The many lives that I could have no should have lived if I had just been driven.
The mistakes that I have made have been great and many.
I’ve rarely ever been a self starter and that is but one of my flaws.
Like most youth I’ve believed that I was above all law.
If it was written or spoken I ignored it, they weren’t for me.
I was someone that made his own destiny.
Now look where that has gotten me, nowhere fast.
You’d think that I’d have learned from the mistakes of my past.
But not the kid, I made them again and again.
