Quiet Storm

by Nikki R. Holmes

You snuck up on me stealing my heart
like a thief in the night.
I tried to deny and ignore it,
pretend it didn’t matter with all my might.
My feelings were so strong
that my insides felt like a quiet storm.
It was weird and very far from the norm.
It started with small pit pats that soon grew to thumps,
that was the sound my heart made.
From the first time you said the words I Love You
my skies have been sunny and blue,
it warmed and tickled me to the bone
because I felt the same way about you.
I hope this feeling last with no troubles or strife.
I give you my all it’s no big sacrifice.
Don’t think it’s something small and measly,
me giving you my all you make so very easy.
It’s a fact that you give it back.
For so long my heart was a prisoner
behind my wall of pain, then you came along.
Your constant support and everlasting words of comfort
and encouragement all made me strong
gone are the days filled with rain and sad songs.
With you I’m not afraid to be myself
or make mistakes you never make me feel ashamed.
Some days I wondered how you managed to fight
through all of my past baggage and pain.
You listened, gave me your hand to hold
and a shoulder for support.
You were there for me when all of me
wasn’t able to be there for myself.
You kept telling me that soon
all my darkness would be light.
For every wrong others had done
you made up with two rights.
I’ll never forget the many nights
we talked until the sun rose.
You were always unselfish and caring
that’s why you’re the man I chose.
I want to walk down that aisle,
I want to be your wife,
and with you I’m ready to spend the rest of my life.
