A Cat Named Ray

by Doug Holloway

There was this cat named Ray
Was said that he was gay
It could be so
But I don’t know
I thought that he was straight

The ladies seemed to love him
Took him as one of them
Was that his way?
To sneak some play!
Or was he “really” fem?

At sports he didn’t do well
At arts and crafts he’d excel
Could dee sign jeans
And bake some beans
his needle work he did sell

He danced like Arthur Murray
Was always in a hurry
His wrist was broke
Sang when he spoke
His speech was often slurry

Now to this day I don’t know
If Ray was on the down low
All I can say
He was okay
Respected me, he did so

Now folks can say what they want
Poor Ray they often did taunt
He played with girls
Wore hair in curls
Maybe manhood was a front

Now this here cat named Ray
From town he moved away
Asked God to help
Him find himself
Was there a cat named Ray
