Young Girl

by Alyssa Hollins

Beautiful young girl, sitting at home on the phone talking about nothing,
Beautiful young girl, worrying none, just having fun not desiring a thing.
That same young girl getting up and leaving home/protection,
That same young girl, meeting the real world and finding no affection.
Vulnerable young girl in the streets being battered to no end,
By hatred, racism, and prejudice, finding no one with a hand to lend.
Poor young girl, hope stolen, pride and confidence taken too,
Poor young girl, a pitiful sight, she hadn’t not a clue.
That beautiful young girl was ignorant to what in this world was real.
But thank God because some day that beautiful young girl’s wounds will heal.
