Persuade Me

I was the last true believer in love,
the last hopeless romantic,
the last set the mood fanatic
dark nites, candles lit, rose peddles and silk slips,
silhouette of erotic bliss
soul mates, soul's fate,
the last true believer in heavens gate
twelve dozen, kissin' cousins
assorted candies in a heart shaped box,
a heart split in half, diaries with locks
cupid shoots his trusty arrow, X marks the spot,
another notch
warm scotch, sitting by a warmer fire place,
as rain races past the window sill, safe
eyes tell stories, deepest thoughts spill
the last true believer in butterflies,
taking flight deep inside, horse and carriage rides
down an autumn park side
the last believer in February,
new years resolution in January?
never to fall in love again,
i don't believe anymore,
you see my friend, things change
the familiar becomes strange, to put it plain
i've locked my heart in the deepest darkest box,
tossed the tiny key
into the deepest depths of the darkest sea
traded this brick wall for all those haunting memories
watch the tiny key float to the bottom of
"oh what could be."
no one ever allowed in again, thru my hearts chastity
the audacity you must posses
to persuade me is immeasurable
what sort of thief you must be
what sort of deep sea diver are you, you have no clue,
do you?
you see, i was the last true believer,
the last of a species, extinct, no more
i join the cult of the cold hearted and unsure
destine to wander thru life
avoiding door after door after door after door
