My Blackness Is What?

by Ashea Goldson

My blackness is what?
What is it to you?

Is it offensive?
Comprehensive?
Or just plain ugly?

Does it peak your interest?
Soar into your consciousness?
Or merely stink in your nostrils?

Am I a mocha colored novelty?
A constant need for caution?
Or a downright threat to society?

Is my freedom an isolated incident?
A privilege well spent?
Or a travesty of justice?

My blackness is what?
What is it to you?
