Folks had goals long ago

To be a teacher, doctor or surgeon

In 1869, it was mostly whites

that received a college education


By 1963, Martin Luther King had a dream

He expressed the need for equal education

to have the same books as whites

so we could live a better life

and get outta a poverished situation



They worked so hard

with little to show

Our great great grand ma slaved for them

            But yet, we still poe



Today everything's so peaceful,

 it seems

Could it also be your friend or spouse

That's killing your dreams?



Ambition is not the problem

            We got that

Making wise dicisions will solve them

Who was that who sang

 "A change gon come"             



So, in order to reach our goal,

Don't take or sell dope

Then we can liven up our soul

and always have hope
