Old School

by David Farrar

I remember the Old School
From the memories we share
When music was sweet
And a pleasure to hear

I can still hear the Whispers
From the Solar record label
When they asked if you've ever
Been kissed down to your navel

We had the Maestro of love
When you heard Barry White
Or that heart-warming sound
That made Gladys Knight

There was a blend of Blue Magic
And Ray, Goodman, and Brown
They would set up the mood
For the best sideshow in town

The Five StairSteps had rhythm
While the Delfonics played
La La means I love you
In their own special way

And an urge to make love
When you heard Teddy P.
And our house was not a home
Without the sounds of Luther V.

Yes I remember the Old School
When Marvin's voice was so clear
And Smokey would sing
The tracks of my tears

They were treasurable moments
I will never let go
As I savor those songs
With my body and soul
