I seem to remember
Never having been taught
About the history of Blacks
And the triumphs we fought
I learned of Romans, and Greeks
England, and France
The Russian revolution
And Custer's last stance
Our only role was as slaves
With no Rulers or Kings
We had no purpose in life
We're just the shadows of things
Although we contributed a lot
Since the beginning of man
We've been pushed to the side
Like dust on some stand
We've been robbed of our past
And stripped of our pride
And what they could not destroy
They tried to just hide
But we seem to survive
Over four hundred years
Of being kept down
And the shed of Black tears
We are beginning to change
What has long been denied
Although the road is still rough
We are gaining back pride
Because the truth is now known
We were more than just slaves
We had a definite past
And we ruled our own ways
For our roots can be traced
Back to Pharaohs and Kings
And how we help shaped this world
From our knowledge of things
So I'm learning the facts
About our gifted Black skin
For we're the children of God
And survivors within
