Shelter on Ash Wednesday

by Farasi

The twelve cots around the gym’s
Green walls wait as black coats, hats
Cover bedding. Back from work in the
liquor store and food joint or just the
Street. I was homeless once the woman
Said who brought aluminum pans
Of chicken, rice and peas.
Hawaiian rolls, lemonade added to the
Paper plates by one thinking he never
Was hoping he never will.
