Gone (In Memory of Nadia)

by Sol

How does the world
continue to go around
when sadness and despair
constantly abound?

Life, it ain't promised
death, always waitin for the day
when forebodin shadows
can come take you away.

Naivety of youth
never sensin the fear
of a menacin presence
lurkin so near.

Fingas of death
gropin, takin hold
stealin away innocence
weepin angels, losin control.

Lifeless shell
the eyes, hollow rimmed
spirit silenced
light, forever dimmed.

*****

This poem is in remembrance of Nadia,
a 2 year-old beautiful child,
victim of child abuse.
She told me her name meant mornin dew.
She's gone but will never be forgotten.
Her innocence lives forever in my memory.
