Missing You

by Dwayne O. Foster

As a blast of light reaches
  my closed eyes,
Tired arms stretch to realize
  the emptiness by my side
The tide of brilliance
  sweeps into barely split slits,
  impairing a new vision
And out looks an imprisoned
  heart,
Trapped in the memories
of the love that has part
Missing the indulgent kisses
  and the spiritual uplift
  of my princess
Blinking as I shift my early
  heaviness towards the emptiness….
Shadows falling sharply
on this pillow of my love
Unforgetfullness shoves the lumps
  of my broken heart upward,
Crushing my throat
Three words create pressure
  as tears float
and then stream to the pillow below
I Love You….
More than myself….
More than the wealth of this new day….
More than this breath that pushes
my chest and parts the way for life
In this moment I feel that I might die,
For my eye cannot flood with your eye,
And my day does not begin
with the touch of your skin
The presence of another day
  begins anew
as I caress an empty space….
Once again…. Realizing
Vivid memories…. Materializing,
   as I am…. Missing you
