If Only You Knew

by Dwayne O. Foster

If only you could know me
    as I do...
Blue, for, the haze stiffens my breathing,
siphoning the life from deep within me
         Infinite canals leaking the blood
                       that is my love...
                               drowning the dove

If only you knew me
    as I did...
         Blindly loving amid pretense,
silence in the stealth of fraudulence
         Sensing the rain...yet,
loving the shadow of the clouds...
                                  this shroud of my life
                                  lay out of sight
Silenced by the loud sound of fear
A mere shadow in the footsteps
             of a thought not clear

If only you could see
   this dormant soul...
   Paralyzed, near demise
   The cold realized weather,
          a blizzard covering my eyes
If only the sun would rise!
   To see the brightness
        of the years past by,
        once again love
                 against a clear sky,
                 sense the meaning of life
deep within the truest of eyes,
I would concede this...as it is,
and die to be born again
